Quietly tucked away in the North Georgia mountains, sits a rare and special treasure. A botanical paradise fairly bursting with dogwoods, tulip magnolias, native azaleas, lady slippers, trilliums...and rhododendrons. Oh my, the rhododendrons. Over 400 varieties - 2,000 plants in all - bloom from spring through early fall.

Welcome to Hamilton Gardens, a truly enchanted spot, boasting the largest collection of rhododendrons in the state of Georgia. Stroll tranquil pine bark trails as they wind through lush foliage. Drink in stunning views of Lake Chatuge and the breathtaking countryside, including the majestic rise of Brasstown Bald, Georgia’s highest peak. Feel your cares drift away on the gentle breezes. And remember what peace and quiet is all about. The magic awaits...at Hamilton Gardens.

Back Panel Copy:

The legacy of Fred and Hazel Hamilton, the Gardens were graciously donated to the Georgia Mountain Fair in 1982, and more than 1,000 plants were eventually relocated to their present site. In 1990, the first Rhododendron Festival was held in Hiawassee, and two years later, the Festival earned the distinction of being one of the Top 20 Events of the Southeast Tourism Society.

While every day is a special event at Hamilton Gardens, check with us for peak viewing times. Open year round, free of charge.
