$20 less in your wallet probably wouldn’t mean a lot to you.

But it would to someone else.

And thanks to an army of dedicated volunteers, and a powerful “charity-to-self-sufficiency” philosophy, that $20 donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society will go further, reach deeper, and make more of a difference. And the best part? Because of the Society’s operational efficiency…

More than $17 of that $20 will find its way to

directly impacting the life of someone in need.

Welcome to MORE… That’s the operating philosophy of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. It means more lives touched and more people served. Our local communities are full of hidden hardship every day – people who while perhaps out of sight, are facing unemployment, hunger, poverty, or sickness. Add the local impacts of a host of natural disasters in 2004 and 2005, and we’re facing times of unusually high need.

Last year we helped 212, 412 people in the north Georgia area – enough to fill four sold-out stadiums. That help included:

·        240,765 volunteer hours

·        $3.9 million in direct financial assistance

·        $567,663 in free food distributed through 33 food pantries

·        753 students attended free classes in our Learning Center

Help us continue the good work of the Society. Please make a donation during the second collection at the weekend Masses on our newer, earlier dates this year: August 26 and 27, and help us reach our goals.

Come be a part of MORE…

A Message from Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory to the Parishioners of the Atlanta Archdiocese

Dear Friends in Christ,

In the Gospel of Matthew 25:35-36, Jesus said: “For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me.”

Every day, the St. Vincent de Paul Society lives those words – words that originally inspired a young priest in a small French village in the early 17th Century. Vincent de Paul was called by God to spread the Word of the Gospel, and in sharing that Word, he lived the Word, devoting his life to helping those in need. The result was the Society – a movement that grew into a renowned and beloved worldwide charity that touches the lives of many millions in need across the globe each year.

In our own Atlanta Archdiocese, the Society continues to do outstanding work in its second century of service – reaching well over 200,000 north Georgians in need last year alone. Through programs offering food, clothing, household goods, training, financial aid, temporary housing and more, they continue to live the Word, inviting those in hardship into their “home.” And in the past year, the Society’s doors, food pantries and hearts opened even wider to the many relocated victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Let us help the Society continue their most welcome and much-needed work. The Society’s Annual Collection for the Atlanta Council and Conferences is scheduled earlier this year – for the weekend of August 26-27. Please give generously so that the Society, in turn, can give generously to those in need of a helping hand.

Sincerely in Christ,

Wilton D. Gregory

Archbishop of Atlanta
